Mario Chalmers and Norris Cole have given the Heat a great 1-2 punch at the point guard position so far this season. They are pushing each other every night for minutes and for who will ultimately close the game. Between these two players the Heat are getting 21 points per game and 8 assists per game. They are also getting a much better defensive presence for the entire game than they have in previous years.
Chalmers has come into this season with a different mindset. He looks much more confident in his knowledge of the offense and has looked very comfortable shooting the 3 ball from the corner. His assertiveness has been a welcome change to the Heat this year, showing he is not afraid to shoot when he is open and lead the team if he needs, like he did during parts of the Atlanta Hawks game last week when Wade and James were out.
The fact that Cole came into the NBA after 4 years of playing at Cleveland St. really shows in his maturity in his game. He does push the ball as fast as most point guards in the league and is doing a good job of keeping his turnovers to a minimum.
A lot of people are worried about which player starts the game, but the real question is who was there to close the game out.
